This week has cemented a good understanding of what digital identity is and how it plays a key role in our digital society. Our group understands digital identity as how a person represents themselves online. Another talking point from this week was that digital identity carries a digital footprint. For the most part, what you do online leaves a footprint it could be a comment, likes, post, share, how you engage, or your blog this all represents your digital identity. This led to another conversation about professional vs personal social media and some funny anecdotal stories from having social media at 11 or 12 and not wanting that anywhere near your now more professional social media. Lastly, a major takeaway from our group’s discussion was how your digital identity can affect your life further down the road. There are hundreds of stories about how people’s professional lives have been affected by what they have said or done online that have huge negative effects on their lives 20-30 years later.
